Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe

No sooner did I get to Key West than I nearly had a pie thrown in my face by none other than Kermit Carpenter, founder and director of the Key West Key Lime Shop.  Kermit loves to throw pies. He runs out of the store each time the Old Town Trolley passes surprising visitors with his authentic looking, but actually fake pie. Everyone gets a chuckle out of his gag.

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas…

On Twelfth Night I threw a party, as I do every year. The Christmas wreath comes down and Carnival (Mardi Gras) decorations go up.   I bake a King Cake in celebration of Three Kings Day, also known as The Epiphany.

Most people are confused with the Christian holiday that commemorates the biblical story of the three wise men, Melchior, Caspar, and Balthazar, who followed the star to Bethlehem. They brought gifts to the Christ child.

Plan a Lunar Party to Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Moon Landing

As a child I remember being told the moon was made of green cheese. Come to think of it, I was told a number of tales, but anyway, one evening my Mom took me outside to show me the night sky. Looking up, she said, “See those funny dents in the moon?They’re holes in the moon’s cheese.” And with a little imagination, I believed the lunar surface was casting a moldy Swiss-cheesy glow.

Now, I’ve got news for you. Today, you can taste a soup that’s been all the way to the moon, and it’s not made with cheese.Yes, Moon Soup, a heavenly cream-based verdigris broth is as scrumptious as a starry night. The recipe is condensed and sold in cans.I’ve seen them stocked in gourmet shops around the country or you can order online.
