In case you’re unsure: crepes are light, delicate pancakes made by pouring a thin liquid batter onto a hot flat circular plate, often with a trace of butter on the pan’s surface. Originally from Brittany, a region in northwestern France, they are popular because of their versatility. 

And nowhere will you find more varieties than Sara’s Crepe Cafe in Saint Augustine, Florida.  The newly opened restaurant is already attracting a faithful following along with happy tourists who just happen to drop in.

Exceptional Meal at Pizzeria Biga near Detroit

 According to James Beard nominated Chef Luciano Del Signore, ‘biga’ is the special starter-yeast he uses to make pizza and breads, and thus it was a natural choice to name his newest restaurant–Pizzeria Biga.

To me the word ‘biga’ conjurs memories of the movie Big Night and this connection remained consistent to film’s story line as my group was served momentous amounts of Chef Del Signore’s artfully arranged food. Pizzeria Biga opened eight months ago in Southpoint, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, and has been regularly garnering “big” reviews.

Clear River Pecan Company: An Ice Cream Treat in Fredericksburg, Texas

Any business that calls itself “the fun place in the middle of a fun town”  sounds like a great place to me. In this case, the lively locale turned out to be the Clear River Pecan Company of Fredericksburg, Texas, in the heart of the Hill Country. German immigrants arrived in 1846 and founded a town which retains many of 1800’s buildings and the layout of the planned settlement. An extra wide Main Street harkens back to the need to turn an ox cart, but works equally well for today’s cars and shoppers.
