Veterans Day 2022: Riding in Vietnam Helicopters

I typically recall elderly WWII Veterans when I think of Veterans Day parades and ceremonies. Sadly, in 2022, those Greatest Generation veterans have passed away. This year my mind turns to Vietnam Vets, especially after a recent helicopter ride.

While in Hampton, Georgia, just outside Atlanta, I had the chance to ride in a UH-1 Iroquois “Huey” helicopter. The Huey was the chopper frequently used to bring and evacuate soldiers from hot spots in Vietnam.

Descending into King Tut’s Tomb

November 4, 2022, marks the one-hundredth anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb, the largest and most significant archeological find of the 20th century, perhaps of all time. The story of its unearthing reads like fiction, not fact, including a “mummy’s curse.”

Seeing Goats in Argan Trees in Morocco

Article Updated March, 2026

You’ve likely seen a photo of many goats standing in the thorny branches of a tree. I had, and I knew those photos were taken in Morocco, specifically in Argan trees. Since I was headed to Morocco, I hoped I’d get to see the unusual sight.

Near the end of my tour, I did come upon goats in an argan tree. When you see the site up close and in person, it’s almost unbelievable. You must stop and grab a camera. And stopping is precisely what the goat owners want.
